"Senate Republicans blocked a multi-billion dollar borrowing plan April 6, because the proposal did not provide funds to repay the debt, contain details about the how the money would be spent, provided no assurances that funds would be distributed according to need rather than politics and ignored demands for protections against “pay for play.” Senate Bills 668 and 3053 called for $4.3 billion in borrowing – $1 billion more ..."

"Give the American Southwest to Mexico? "Reconquista"? By Sunnye T on Friday, April 07, 2006 By Ronald F. MaxwellApril 6, 2006Dear President Bush, Perhaps you know me from my work. I wrote and directed the movies "Gettysburg" and "Gods and Generals." Walking Civil War battlefields, soaking up the letters and diaries of that generation, re-creating the world of our ancestors -- all this has given me a deep appreciation for our country. My dad was with the Army Air Corps in North Africa while your dad was in the Pacific. My French ..."

"Pete Couvall, first vice chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party, said the success of the Oberweis campaign in the county may indicate a split between moderate Republicans who support Topinka and conservative voters who favored Oberweis. "I was very surprised that he not only took Lake County but also McHenry and Kane counties," he said. "In my opinion, it means that Judy Baar Topinka could be in for a very tough race come November."" (quoted in a rather uneven Lake Zurich Courier article on Oberweis Primary election victory in Lake County.)Frankly, I disagree. The Primary election campaign is the ...

"CHICAGO -- Illinois' northernmost bit is north of Cape Cod and its southern tip is south of Richmond, Va. Scattered the length of the state, from the Wisconsin border to Kentucky's, are fragments of wreckage from the state party that produced the first Republican president -- who was born in Kentucky and nominated by a Republican Party born in Wisconsin, at Ripon. In the past four presidential elections, ..."

"The Republican Party is a grassroots party. Success depends on rallying the base into action. Yet all too often, grassroots activists feel as though their concerns fall on deaf ears. Now, through GOPUSA, the base had a chance to speak out, and the message is clear: accountability is key. Republicans need to start acting like Republicans..."

The Illinois Republican Party is governed by the State Central Committee. The State Central Committee is comprised of nineteen members each representing a congressional district. State Central Committee members have one deputy. Election of State Central Committeemen outside of Cook is by Precinct Committeemen, not County Chairmen or Township Chairmen. The County Chairmen responsible for electing the State Central Committee members have a weighted vote depending on what the republican primary turnout was for the last applicable election cycle. They serve a four- year term.

In a short article at Illinois Review, John Ruskin reinforces earlier conclusions that the Blagojevich administration and Democrtat GA majority have failed miserably in fostering new Illinois job creation since 2003. The earlier analysis, first posted in a Powerpoint presentation at the Illinois Senate Republicans website, demonstrates that Illinois would have half a million new jobs if it had simply kept pace with the US average since 2003.My only complaint with this graph is the choice of red for Illinois and blue for Kentucky. Given Illinois clear advantages in location and financial resources, the record is a powerful indictment of ...

April 19th marks an important date in Lake County Republican politics, the election of party leaders for the coming term. The Lake County Committeeman election at this year's convention features at least two excellent candidates for the top job, Lake Villa Township Supervisor Dan Venturi and Cuba Township Highway Commissioner Tom Gooch. Electing new leaders is one of the important dutes of precinct committeemen and comes hot on the heels of their own election in the March Primary.Competing visions of the Lake County GOP future collide in the days and weeks preceding the bienniel convention as candidates vie for ...
