2005 Lake County Barometer: A Survey of Development Activity in Lake County - Lake County Partners

"The 2005 Lake County Barometer is finally ready and we are including it with this newsletter.  Since 2001, Lake County Partners has monitored and reported on Lake County's development activity on an annual basis. That first year, the nation was had just entered a recession that was made much worse by the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington DC.  The national economy has seen several peaks and valleys since that time with the war in Iraq, a "jobless recovery," and the continued globalization of the workforce (i.e. outsourcing).

"Nationally, 2005 was a strong economic year.  Factory orders were strong, unemployment remained below 6%, consumers continued their retail buying sprees, and housing sales remained strong.  Had it not been for the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the impacts on the national economy, 2005 would have been very good year.  Locally, Lake County's economy reflected the nation: a return to pre-recession unemployment rates, vibrant new corporate relocation activity, and expansions of local companies.  The 2005 Lake County Barometer includes corporate relocations and expansions, new businesses, new retail developments and parks, real estate statistics, and labor information for 2005.  It is a survey of business activity in Lake County and, as such, is not meant to include every deal, development, or new business.  Enjoy!

"The 2005 Lake County Barometer is a collection of information regarding economic development activity in Lake County, Illinois over the past year. The information in this report has been gathered by Lake County Partners from various media sources, as well as from local municipalities, non-profit partners, government organizations, developers, and real estate brokers. It is not intended to be a complete report of business and development activity for the entirety of Lake County. Because of the mulitple sources, Lake County Partners does not guarantee the accuracy of the information contained in this report." -Lake County Partners
