Message from Grassroots to Republican Party: Accountability is Key

"The Republican Party is a grassroots party. Success depends on rallying the base into action. Yet all too often, grassroots activists feel as though their concerns fall on deaf ears. Now, through GOPUSA, the base had a chance to speak out, and the message is clear: accountability is key. Republicans need to start acting like Republicans."

"With results from close to 2,700 grassroots Republican activists to a recent GOPUSA survey, a detailed picture can be drawn which reflects their mood, sentiments, and concerns. The problem is… is anyone listening? In order for there to be success in the upcoming elections, Republican Party officials and leaders must recognize that 2006 makes the first election of a new era — one in which Republican activists are demanding more bang for their buck."

One would think that the notions revealed by the GOPUSA poll would be self-evident and intuitively obvious to Republicans. But for far too many Republicans at all levels, the core Republican Platform positions have been forgotten, corrupted, or ignored. This is an all too-familiar refrain from Illinois Republican activists as well. It comes as no surprise that the single biggest concern expressed by Republicans in the poll is accountability. Our party cannot retain its identity if its members act more like Democrats than Republicans. Those who ignore the Republican Platform may find life more comfortable in that 'other' party of the liberals... and those of us who are loyal Republicans should hold their feet to the fire until thay act like Republicans, fully supporting the Republican Platform.
