I started this blog with the sincere hope that it would provide a useful conduit for discussing ways to rebuild the Republican Party in Vernon Township. I read an article recently that used the word 'disaster' to describe the state of Republican Committeeman participation in Vernon Township. With active precinct committeemen in just 25% of Vernon precincts, one could hardly argue with that word choice. While some might decry this state of affairs, I look at it as a golden opportunity to find new people, build our organization, and make a meaningful contribution to Vernon Township, Lake County and Illinois.

As a newcomer to the local political scene, I have much to learn and few prejudices. I intend to ask a lot of questions, both to learn what others with more experience and insight can offer, and to stimulate productive discussion. Civility, mutual respect, and earnest inquiry are all marks of civilized discourse. Let's all try to remember those notions and concentrate on issues and ideas rather than personalities. While a lively discussion is always desirable, personal attacks and name-calling serve no useful purpose. Be prepared to accept and provide verbal challenges based upon clear and logical discussion rather than supposition or innuendo.
